Choosing shoes for fall and winter is not easy. One of the most important parameters is water resistance. We often choose waterproof shoes for this season: leather or with a membrane. Here it is worth answering one very important question. Are leather boots more waterproof than membrane boots?
Are leather shoes waterproof?
Leather winter work boots are usually waterproof, thanks to the fact that the upper is made of leather. However, an additional advantage of leather work boots is their durability. In addition, work shoes from Strauss and other manufacturers may have different protective parameters - from the toe cap, through the SRC sole and others, so in this they do not differ in any way from shoes with a membrane. An additional advantage of leather work shoes is that they are soft and therefore you can work in them while kneeling. Leather is often softer than synthetic materials, and therefore works better. So what is the difference between work shoes with a membrane? Winter boots with a membrane are often made of synthetic materials, sometimes with mesh inserts. These S3 work shoes are complemented by a waterproof membrane that makes the seemingly soaked material protect your feet from water. The membranes work in such a way that they protect against the penetration of moisture from the outside, but allow it to drain away from the inside of the shoe, so you keep your feet dry even after long work.
Why are work boots recommended for work?
Certainly, this model of work shoes stabilizes the ankle very well. Depending on the protection class, work shoes and ankle boots can withstand rain and difficult weather conditions. In addition, work safety shoes are often equipped with an anti-puncture sole and have a steel toe cap - only such models are available in S3 class shoes. Another advantage is the sole resistant to fuels and high temperatures up to about 180 ° C - most shoes with a high protection class have exactly these parameters. When you want to take care of your comfort even more, pay attention to whether the work shoes you choose have metatarsal support systems, because thanks to them you can work for many hours and not feel discomfort.
How to clean winter work boots?
If you want to find good and waterproof winter work shoes, you should definitely reach for the S3 work shoes. Footwear in this category is always waterproof. It results from the requirements of health and safety standards, but it is not the only parameter that you should pay attention to. When choosing leather work shoes, check that they are suitable for your working conditions. Leather work shoes are exposed to really extreme conditions every day. If your shoes deal with a lot of mud or dust and dirt every day, work shoes made of materials with a smooth texture are the best choice for you. The upper should have a small number of elements. Only then will you be able to clean mud quickly and easily from these work shoes.
When it comes to cleaning, it all depends on whether you are dealing with leather work boots or with membrane boots. The latter will lose their waterproof properties if they are not cleaned regularly. However, if you have leather work shoes, you should obtain leather impregnation. A special cleaner will be more suitable for cleaning work boots with a membrane. We mean, among others, preparations for work shoes with Goretex or OutDry membrane. Exactly, different types of membranes require different impregnations!
In conclusion - is it better to choose work shoes with a membrane or classic leather? There is no clear answer to this question. It all depends on what work environment you move in on a daily basis. The degree of water resistance of your work shoes also depends on whether you groom them regularly and how. It is only worth bearing in mind that all safety shoes s3 are waterproof - they are the perfect choice for fall and winter. They are not waterproof, so they will never replace wellington boots, but can handle rain and snow in most cases. Whether it will be leather boots or high boots with a membrane is up to you!
