Protective clothing and workwear play a very important role, protecting manual workers and craftsmen against harmful substances and against mechanical injuries, such as abrasions to the skin. One of the elements of workwear are work gloves. There are many types of this type of gloves, and their choice should be dictated by the work that will be performed with them. Which work gloves should be adapted to specific professions?

Protective or work gloves?

It is worth noting that there is a difference between protective gloves and work gloves. Although the terms are often used interchangeably, the truth is that the two types of gloves differ significantly from each other. First of all, work gloves are designed to protect us from scratches and abrasions, which, however, do not pose a threat to our life or health. Protective gloves are, in turn, an element of protective clothing, which is to protect us against more serious threats resulting from our work. It is about serious cuts, frostbite, burns, electric shock or damage to the body caused by chemicals.

In the case of gloves, there are many types, e.g. insulated work gloves, fingerless gloves for summer, or leather work gloves. Later in the article, we will suggest which gloves to choose for specific jobs.

How to match work gloves to the job?

First of all, our goal is not to indicate what kind of gloves should be used, for example, by a carpenter or an electrician, because the working environment of individual representatives of the same professions may differ, and therefore they may need a slightly different type of protection. In order to fit the gloves properly to the job at hand, you need to take into account the risks involved.

In the case of works where there is a high risk of injury to your hand, cut resistant gloves, as well as abrasion, tearing or puncture-resistant gloves are the best. Leather work gloves often meet these requirements.

Gloves for working at low temperatures, i.e. winter work gloves, play a very important role. They provide protection against frostbite, and thus, thanks to them, employees have greater manual dexterity. A similar function is performed by waterproof work gloves, which also have a very positive effect on the comfort of work in a situation when there is a very high concentration of moisture in the workplace or it is raining.

What should you pay attention to when choosing work gloves?

Of course, work gloves must be suited to the type of work to be performed, as we already mentioned in the previous paragraph. However, the quality of these gloves is extremely important, because poor quality gloves will not only wear out much faster, but also may not properly protect our hands. It is good to choose products from recognized brands, such as Engelbert Strauss, Snickers, Mechanix or Kyorene work gloves. In addition, protective gloves used in workplaces or on construction sites should meet the requirements of specific standards, which should be remembered primarily by employers.
