Merino wool - what makes it unique?
Good body protection during work is the basic task of workwear. However, when we ensure a high level of security, we need something more - we expect that what we put on will heat, but at the same time deal well with sweat. The need arises for the comfort to be maximized. A biting, woolen sweater or a thin sweatshirt is not what allows you to feel good regardless of the conditions and time of work. The solutions used in specialized mountaineering clothing come to our aid again - just like in the case of the famous BOA fastener, the specialists did a great job here. It was enough just to reach for another treasure of nature.
What is merino wool?
Merino wool is a material obtained from the fleece of Merino sheep - a species that has perfectly adapted to the prevailing conditions. These sheep naturally occur min. in the mountainous regions of New Zealand. The temperature amplitude can be huge - from 30 degrees Celsius in summer to -30 degrees in winter. Not to live? Not for Mother Nature. Merino sheep have developed a fleece over the years that protects them perfectly. Adapted to the dry climate of the South Pacific, the merino fleece is very fine and thin, but also dense. This is the key to success. Due to these properties, there is more air space between the fibers and this creates more effective thermoregulation. The density of wool makes it impermeable to water. The shape of the fibers (the so-called crimps) causes extraordinary elasticity - they can stretch even by 30%. It will come as no surprise to anyone that in the 1980s in Australia the economy was mainly based on the export of wool, and there were 10 times more merino than people?
Importance in workwear
Okay, but how can artisans benefit from merino wool? There are at least a few of them. First of all, it absorbs moisture very well. The fibers absorb water and trap it between the scales. As a result, even though clothing becomes wet, we still feel that the body is dry - no matter how much sweat it produces. The same fibers do not show much thermal conductivity - they just keep the temperature. Putting on clothes will keep you warm in winter and cool in summer. Microbes and dirt hate this wool - thanks to this, we avoid such small things as stench or stains, but also more serious threats, such as bacteria. It is also easier to take care of them - contact with oxygen regenerates the material, so it does not require frequent washing. Air spaces between the fibers give it airiness. And for dessert, fireproof and biodegradable properties. Do you need anything more?
