Before using the filtering and absorbing equipment, you must first read its instructions and check its technical condition, completeness and correctness of matching the class to the hazard.
The time of use of the equipment depends on:
- a type of combined filter or filtering-absorbing half-mask;
- its protection class;
- ambient air humidity and temperature
- the type of pollution;
- pollutant concentrations;
- degree of work arduousness.
As for the filter layer, its lifetime is influenced by:
- the actual conditions in which the filtering layer is used (high dust concentration, high hygroscopicity of dusts, increased air humidity, may have an impact on shortening the service life)
- equipment protection class
filter clogging speed and battery operation time, in turn, affect the service life of the filter layer in equipment with an additional power source
If we are dealing with an absorbing or filtering layer with a layer containing activated carbon, the time of its protective action depends on the concentration of vapors and gases in the air, the sorption capacity of the absorbing layer, humidity and temperature of the surrounding air, the type of carbon sorbent and the degree of nuisance work.

Tab. Time of the protective effect of combined filters / filtering-absorbing half-masks
Equipment replacement should be made when the user senses a characteristic taste or odor for a chemical it protects against, or when an increase in breathing resistance is felt.
The time of use of filtering and absorbing equipment with an additional power source is influenced by the speed of filter clogging, the rate of saturation of the sorption layer and the battery charge.
