Cordura fabric is often used in tourism, in the army, for sewing workwear. However, you can also wear Cordura work trousers or Cordura shoes on a daily basis. Such an outfit will help you to meet the challenges of life every day faster and more freely. Cordura is one of those incredibly durable fabrics that appear to be indestructible. In this article, we will mention its properties, application, the beginnings of its use, and shoes and clothing made of Cordura.
Who produces Cordura?
Cordura fabric is not known for as long as you might think. It was patented only in 2004. The creator of the Cordura material was, of course, the American brand DuPont. It then sold the rights to produce Cordura to Invista. In general, over the years, this brand has successfully developed the production technology of this material. This led to the development of less and more durable types of Cordura material. However, the advantage of all this is the fact that each type of Cordura fabric is suitable for completely different tasks. You have probably encountered materials such as Cordura 1000 or Cordura 600 in stores more than once. They are distinguished by the fact that each type of Cordura fabric has a slightly different marking. We must very strongly emphasize here that every Cordura manufacturer must legally have a proper license granted by Invista, so when you buy Cordura products, you can be sure that
Why is Cordura so durable?
The secret of the Cordura fabric is that it has an innovative weave of fibers. It is a combination of specially adapted materials. Then these fibers are properly treated. No one really knows how this happens, because the whole process is a trade secret. Cordura material is usually polyamide with a polyurethane coating with Teflon finish. It has a plain weave and is waterproof. Cordura fabric is made of durable nylon fibers. Cordura fabric is very often used as part of workwear. It is not used to sew entire work clothes, but only those elements that are most exposed to abrasions or other types of damage. We mean here such places as: elbows, knees or pockets. This fabric often complements high-quality work shoes, making the uppers more durable.
Cordura - how to wash?
Cordura is not washable! However, you can clean it with commercially available cleaners. They must not contain any solvents. You can use soapy water or regular dishwashing liquid for these purposes. Be careful not to use chemicals to clean the Cordura fabric that may scratch its surface. However, do not worry about washing clothes with Cordura inserts - you can wash them in the washing machine, following the recommendations on the label.
Cordura or polyester?
Cordura is really nothing but a polyester of the right thickness. Therefore, if you want to choose the right pants from this material, you should pay attention to its marking. The higher it is, the thicker the material. Match the type of Cordura fabric to your individual preferences. You can find a wide selection of Cordura workwear in our Baltic BHP online store. Certainly, their quality, water resistance and other advantages will pleasantly surprise you. One of the strengths of this fabric is that you don't have to wash it. It is enough to clean it - for example, if the pants get dirty only on the reinforcement in the knee area, you do not have to throw them into the washing machine right away. You can wipe only the Cordura insert with a soft cloth. It is also very resistant to abrasion and tearing, thanks to which it will work even in the most difficult conditions.
